My husband and I joined CrossFit Forest, 8 months ago. (April 2013). I had reached a point in my life where I truly needed a change. All the diets, workout routines that used to work for me in my 20's and 30's were not producing results. I had a wake-up call when my doctor threatened to put me on high blood pressure medication. At 45, my blood pressure was 156/106. He gave me the choice; fix it naturally or medicate! I decided to take the 'natural' approach.
I had heard about CrossFit from several people. My husband and I found the local CrossFit in our area. We spoke to Pete Jones, owner and head coach about the program and he invited us to a 2 day nutrition seminar and a training day.
We attended the nutrition seminar and training day and found it very informative. I had no idea that the nutrition seminar would end with a challenge to 'eat clean' and follow the Whole9 eating program for 30 days; The 'Whole30 Challenge'. Both my husband and I agreed to give it a try. We also decided to join of the CrossFit Forest Box.
I started working out in the training program 3 days a week. The first month was tough, but with every week, I started feeling stronger and had more energy. I found the workouts to be completely different from anything I have ever tried or willing to try. It takes a little time to learn the movements, but the coaches; Pete, Skye, Martin, Kevin and Ryan, provide great instruction and encouragement. They scale the workouts (when I need it) so that I'm challenged, but have a feeling of accomplishment. I'm not going to lie.. I go in every day a little scared of what's in store, but I always leave feeling great!
I completed the Whole30 challenge and in the first month I lost 15 pounds and dropped from a size 14 to a size 10. Within 3 months, I dropped 25 pounds and was down to a size 8. I'm now down 35 pounds and a size 6, but most importantly, my health is back on track. My blood pressure is now 126/74. I truly could not have made this progress without the nutrition education that Pete provided, the fitness instruction and push that I receive every time I enter the Box.
Lastly, one of the things I love about CrossFit Forest is the community. Pete, Sandy (Pete's wife) and the coaches cultivate a community environment, one that encourages each other and celebrates our fitness accomplishments. I have made some great friends!
What you get with CrossFit Forest is the full package. And, the new, large facility is AWESOME. Come check it out!
