I have struggled with my weight and appearance for as long as I can remember. I have always enjoyed working out, but couldn’t ever seem to get to where I wanted to be. My husband (Tom Heyden) and our friend (Trisha LeCompte) introduced me to Crossfit Forest 2 years ago this month (December, 2014). I was so scared in the beginning that I would often work out with a lump in my throat, ready to cry at any moment, because I didn’t feel that I could do this!
I had cancer in 2011 – 5 surgeries, 4 months of bi-weekly chemo, and 6 weeks of radiation over 9 months in 2012. This also put me in menopause, which is another deadly weight/body curse! I gained 30 lbs. over that experience and could not for the life of me get it off – my oncologist just kept telling me that losing weight was probably not an option now that I am in menopause, but to keep exercising.
Crossfit became my exercise and my doctor supported it! In July of this year I started working with a Nutrition Coach (Trisha). She helped me clean up my diet and supported a crossfit regime. I committed to 5-6 days a week of crossfit and have followed a clean/healthy meal plan. As of today I have lost 5 inches in my waist, 4 inches in my hips, and 15 lbs. The last 5 lbs. have come off without me even feeling like I am trying, which is an absolute miracle!!! I am almost 50 years old and have been trying to get to this level of fitness since my 20’s!
Crossfit is an amazing, challenging, rewarding, and sometimes scary experience, but to say it has been worth it would be the a huge understatement! I competed in my first crossfit competition in October and was able to do a strict pull up in August. These are definitely accomplishments I never saw as possible when I started this crossfit journey 2 years ago – or ever for that matter!
Crossfit Forest has incredible coaches and such a fun and supportive environment!! Thank you for helping make my life long fitness dreams come true!
Life is too short NOT to Crossfit! :)
