Most recently, I got pregnant with my second child and continued to do Crossfit until 39 weeks. I did not have any swelling or back pain like my previous pregnancy, and I had a quick and easy delivery. The coaches helped me modify the workouts to keep me safe each trimester. I am grateful that Crossfit wods can be scaled to fit each individual’s abilities.
I had cancer in 2011 – 5 surgeries, 4 months of bi-weekly chemo, and 6 weeks of radiation over 9 months in 2012. This also put me in menopause, which is another deadly weight/body curse! I gained 30 lbs. over that experience and could not for the life of me get it off – my oncologist just kept telling me that losing weight was probably not an option now that I am in menopause, but to keep exercising.
One day I woke up feeling like I was missing something in my lifestyle, I didn’t look or feel the way I wanted to when it came to my health. I decided to try out CrossFit, I had heard many people say it was tough but so rewarding and I was up for the challenge. I had no idea the community of people and coaches that I was stepping into. Not only had I found something that was challenging but I had a new group of friends ready to hold me accountable and pick me up when I struggle.
...I can say that CrossFit and especially CrossFit Forest have changed my life. I am in the best shape of my life, I quit smoking, I am down to 220 lbs, I am stronger than I have ever been, and an added bonus is that I met the love of my life at CrossFit and we just recently got married. As the saying goes, “Those that WOD together, stay together!”
