I was never the most athletic kid growing up and even in high school I never played organized sports. I joined the Air Force out of high school and was in what I believed at the time to be the best shape of my life. Shortly after leaving the Air Force, I had that moment that most everyone who struggles with their weight has; that moment you look in the mirror and are disgusted at the person you see staring back at you. I had eaten, drank, and smoked myself to a weight of 260 lbs. I was at the lowest point in my life with my health, fitness, and overall self esteem. I decided that I needed a change and did the 24 hour fitness routine and found myself bored out of my mind. Doing the same thing day in and day out for months left me wanting something, anything to excite me about working out.

In June of 2012, I started my CrossFit journey at another box and after a few years decided that I needed a change and that is when I found CrossFit Forest. I met with Pete and just felt like he really cared and understood what it would take to help me reach my goals. I decided to make the move to CrossFit Forest.  One of the first classes I attended was the nutrition seminar that is run monthly and that opened my eyes to what I had been missing with my nutrition.  This along with the great programming have made all the difference in my CrossFit journey.

I can say that CrossFit and especially CrossFit Forest have changed my life.  I am in the best shape of my life, I quit smoking, I am down to 220 lbs, I am stronger than I have ever been, and an added bonus is that I met the love of my life at CrossFit and we just recently got married.  As the saying goes, “Those that WOD together, stay together!”

The real magic of CrossFit though isn’t the weights, or the PRs (Personal Records) that you set, or how fast you run a mile.  It is the community and the people that you see everyday that make you want to come back tomorrow. Building those bonds that will last a lifetime and the friendships that will never be replaced.  I look forward to that hour everyday where I am surrounded by people that motivate me, support me, and genuinely care that I succeed.  I can’t help but smile and laugh when I am at the Forest and it is truly “The best hour of my day!”
